Effective 160500 UTC Nov 2024, the North Atlantic Right Whale mandatory speed restriction zone in the Gulf of St. Lawrence for vessels 13 metres or more in length is no longer in effect. Mariners are encouraged to keep a sharp lookout for the presence of North Atlantic Right Whales and voluntarily restrict transiting at speeds in excess of 10 knots over ground, if maritime conditions permit, and to report all sightings to the nearest Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre.

The Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada hereby provide notice that pilotage service is no longer available in the compulsory pilotage area of Miramichi, NB. The navigation channel is deficient in width, depth, and alignment and does not meet the recommended guidelines for the accommodation of commercial traffic. The process of infilling in the Miramichi River is continuous, therefore local knowledge may be incomplete or not up to date at any time, ongoing infilling may exceed the accuracy of sounding surveys at any time, and the fixed and floating aids to navigation may not provide the degree of accuracy required by certified masters of commercial vessels to safely navigate the channel. Any further commercial use of the waterway in its current condition by vessels is solely at the discretion of the vessel master
